It’s October!
And Oktoberfest at de Sales Church is coming

It has been much too long since the Church of Francis de Sales in Mathews has served its famous Oktoberfest Dinner. Mark your calendar, pull out your wallet, and buy a ticket. The doors to the Oktoberfest honoring Chris Hale and John Van Over will be wide open from 7-9 p.m. next Saturday, Oct. 15.
Ed and Pat Lipinski have organized this year’s event “with help of the entire congregation. All food plus other material have been donated thus all sales will be clear profit which is given to the church.”
Explaining how it works, Pat said, “Five ladies will come into the kitchen the day before the dinner and do all of the prep work. I will be doing the chopping. It’s then refrigerated and ready to be completed later by several talented cooks (the church roster lists quite a lot of them). The men are preparing the bratwurst and bringing it in.” Everything is brought to the church and put together on “d” day. In the meantime several ladies are doing the decorations.
