The Mathews Fireworks Committee met on Tuesday to begin planning this year’s Independence Day celebration. The 2023 fireworks show will be held on Saturday, July 1, at Mathews High School. There will be entertainment, food, and a raffle of a number of items. Raffle tickets will be sold at May Faire, the Gwynn’s Island Festival, and the Daffodil Festival, as well as in the Mathews County Treasurer’s Office and at Cattails. This year’s committee members include, from left, Chris Williams, Larry Stewart, Alice Stewart, Tracy Elliott, Jeannie Elliott, Wendy Stewart, Tabby Clark, Patrick Harrington, Pam Harrington, Charles Ingram, Sheriff Mark Barrick and Jeremy Elliott.
