Independence Day

Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, paid tribute to the founding of our nation in a special Independence Day program for the community on Monday morning. Dressed as a Continental soldier, Warren Deal, above, presented the flag at the start of the program. The event included a number of patriotic songs sung by, top bottom photo, from left, Barbara Fahrion, Sally Tomer, Robin Hellier, Roberta Wiatt, Elaine Rountree, Donnie Mullins, Wes Wilson, Tom Phillips, Dick Hellier and, not pictured, Sylvia Jones, Doug Nagel, Becky Heath, Clauda Lamb, Pam Driggs, Nancy and Micheal Haley. Colonial-era music was provided by violinist Jenny Edenborn, at bottom left. The program concluded, bottom right, with the ringing of the original church bell (which dates from around 1882 and is now a part of the church’s columbarium) by Anna and Lorenzo Jachero of Columbia, Maryland, with some help from their grandfather, Chris Doyel.
