Mathews voters supported two incumbents on county boards during Tuesday’s election, while also giving strong support to two newcomers.
Incumbent O.J. Cole retained his seat on the board of supervisors, garnering 2,077 votes, or nearly 41 percent of the total, while newcomer Jack White, with 2,032 votes, or nearly 40 percent, was elected to the seat that is being vacated by Neena Putt, who made a bid for the House of Delegates.
Write-in candidate G.C. Morrow apparently made a good showing, since 975 votes, or 19 percent of votes cast in the supervisors race, were write-in votes. However, the number of votes he actually received wasn’t available at press time because his name wasn’t listed on the ballot and some of the write-in votes may have been for other people.
