The educational play “I Have a Dream” was presented to Gloucester third grade students at T.C. Walker Education Center on Feb. 24. Performed by the Virginia Repertory Children’s Theatre, a nonprofit professional theater group, it traced the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from humble beginnings through his evolution into one of the 20th century’s foremost figures. The Richmond-based ensemble produces such plays for schools and public venues across the United States. This performance was supported by a grant awarded to Concerts by the Bay from the Gloucester Community Foundation and Virginia Commission for the Arts. Concerts by the Bay is a local nonprofit organization that promotes exposure of the performing arts to children and presents varied musical entertainment for residents of Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties. Students always have free admission to CBTB performances, which are presented at Mathews High School.
