Humane society virtual volunteer open house to be held Nov. 12

The Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is looking for new volunteers and will hold a virtual volunteer open house on Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m. via Google Meet.
According to April Martinez, chief executive officer of GMHS, and Waynette Petty, volunteer manager, the greatest need of the shelter is its Highway to Home program where volunteers transport animals to rescue shelters sometimes 300 or more miles away.
Current volunteer opportunities at GMHS include canine/feline wellness assistants, front desk assistants and local/long distance transport associates.
At the November open house, Petty will present all of the humane society’s current volunteer opportunities and will answer questions afterward. New volunteers will receive one-on-one training instead of group training due to social distancing requirements.
