Hughes named CCS valedictorian

Allison Liya Hughes of Port Haywood has been named the 2020 class valedictorian for Christchurch School in Middlesex County.

She is among 70 students who will be graduating, and is slated to give the valedictorian speech electronically. It will be posted on the school’s website, www.christchurchschool.org, at 9 a.m. Saturday, the time of the previously scheduled graduation.
Hughes grew up in Mathews County, attending Lee-Jackson Elementary School from kindergarten to second grade before transferring to Ware Academy in the third grade. She attended Christchurch School during her high school years and will matriculate to Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania in the fall.
Hughes is a Headmaster’s List student at Christchurch, which is the school’s highest honor role, and she serves as a prefect, a student leader position.
