Howard Avant Millen, 87, of Gloucester, Va., passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023.

He was born on Jan. 2, 1936 in Calypso, N.C., to the late Ira Herman Millen and Sara Etta Hall Millen.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Tommie Millen, Reaford Millen, Joe Millen, and Sterling Millen, as well as two sisters, Grace Jordan and Nina Barber.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret “Audrey” Millen; three sons, Stanley Millen, Ernest Millen, and Patrick Millen, as well as two daughters, Sandra West (Brian) and Sharon Williams (Jimmy).

He is also survived by a brother, Johnny Millen of N.C., and sister, Magdalene Waters of Gloucester, as well as 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Millen worked in the N.N. Shipyard until he retired, and loved farming. He was especially proud of his work in the church, New Life Ministry Center, where he was a teacher, had a prison ministry, and sent bibles to prison inmates in Virginia and the surrounding states.

He was loved and will be missed greatly.

Services were held at New Life Ministry Center on Wednesday, May 17, at 1 p.m., followed by burial at Rosewell Cemetery.

Andrews Funeral Home of Gloucester, was in charge of services.
