There seems to have been a love affair with cars since Henry Ford started it all. Ford vowed, “I will build a vehicle for the multitudes,” and so in 1908 it began with his Model T. This early vehicle lasted for 19 years, and before long Ford became a household name. He was an industrialist of the twentieth century, but his name and vehicles live on, this “love affair,” now well into the twenty-first century. Our main mode of transportation, the automobile, is a vital part of American life.
For vehicles to serve the owner well and for as long as possible, routine maintenance is essential. In speaking with Grover Bergdoll and daughter Kim B. Smith at Grover’s Auto Repair in Mathews, they both stressed that regular maintenance is key. Kim told of a Toyota Camry which was recently sold with over 400,000 miles and all original equipment. The previous owner was diligent in scheduling regular maintenance. It “ran like a charm,” she stated smiling, “until the new owner wrecked it!”
