Recently, in separate ceremonies, the Thomas Nelson Jr. chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution honored members of the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department, Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad and Mathews County Sheriff’s Office with annual awards. Roland Wilson posthumously received the SAR Fire Safety Award, Dr. Marilyn “Lindy” Hatch posthumously received the SAR Annual EMS Award, and Sheriff Mark Barrick received the SAR Law Enforcement Award. These awards may be given annually by local chapters of the SAR with each recipient being submitted for competition at the state and possibly national level.
