Edward Diggs, center, retired master boatbuilder in Mathews County, was honored at a surprise reception Sunday afternoon by the Mathews Maritime Foundation. Twenty models that Diggs has crafted, after he wrapped up his career of building workboats for many years, were brought in for display. The occasion also served as an open house for the foundation’s renovated and enlarged museum on Main Street.
