Robert May, who was then owner of Hudgins Pharmacy, shows off some of the decorative and holiday items featured at the store in 2009. A dominant presence on Mathews Main Street for close to a century, May sold the business in 2016; three years later, it closed its doors for good. Hudgins Pharmacy was established in 1922 by Bailey D. and C. Bernard Hudgins. It was located in the Farmers and Fishermen’s Building, with its large round columns and a tall roof that shades the full width of the sidewalk. It’s still there today.
