The lights of the season are still twinkling, at least for a little while, in Gloucester and Mathews counties. In top photo, the home of Tim and Alease Tillage on Glebe Road in Mathews radiates the joy of this holiday season. Tim Tillage estimates close to 300,000 lights are in place, to be augmented by 100,000 more next year. “We are really doing it for the community as a hope of a Merry Christmas,” he said. He was fixing the lights recently after a stormy night when a car pulled through the driveway to look. “The back window on the car came down and this tiny voice from the back seat said ‘Merry Christmas,’” said Tillage. “It melted my heart—and in that moment it made all the hard work worthwhile.” This display will stay up until Jan. 6.
