Mathews County Administrator Ramona Wilson provided an update to county supervisors on a dredging project at the board’s June 20 meeting in the historic courthouse.
Wilson said that dredging at Hole in the Wall had been completed, but when the bottom was surveyed, it was determined that only 27,000 cubic feet of the planned 40,000 cubic feet had been removed, so the company that did the work will return in October to finish the project.
She said the remaining sand will also be placed on Haven Beach. In addition, she said the breakwater project at the beach will begin soon and is slated to be finished in July.
County supervisor Tom Bowen suggested expanding parking at the beach, perhaps by using dredge spoils that are less sandy. Board members voted to have Wilson look into the matter.
