John Broadwater, chief scientist of the Monitor Expedition 2002 and author of “USS Monitor, A Historic Ship Completes Its Final Journey,” will speak at the next meeting of Mathews County Historical Society.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mathews Yacht Club, 390 Yacht Club Road, Hudgins.

The Monitor Expedition raised the ironclad ship which is renowned for its Civil War battle with the Merrimack (CSS Virginia) at the Battle of Hampton Roads. These ships were the precursors to the modern submarines.
