Historic Christ Church and Museum will host its annual spring training for new and returning volunteers on March 28-30 at the historic site in the Lancaster County community of Weems.
The program begins each morning with coffee and refreshments at 8:30 a.m., followed by training sessions from 9 a.m. to noon, according to Foundation for Historic Christ Church Executive Director Robert Teagle.
A mix of HCC&M researchers and outside speakers will present a variety of topics related to Christ Church’s history and its role in colonial Virginia. Day one includes archaeologist Katie Brauckmann speaking on the excavations she has led at Christ Church for over a year that are part of a larger preservation project to install a subsurface drainage system around the historic church. Volunteer Wally Dawson, who heads a committee leading the drainage project, will discuss the design of the drainage system and completion schedule.
