Fly fisherman Randy Drake, above, reeled in this largemouth bass from one of the piers near the Ranger Station at Beaverdam Park on Monday. He used a fly that mimicked a minnow, and it was a hit, reported Park Ranger Elizabeth Keefer. It was Drake’s first catch of 2025. Fishing reports from anglers at Beaverdam Park Reservoir have been hit-or-miss with the temperature and weather fluctuations in recent weeks, Keefer reported, with the current water temperature at 45 degrees. Beginning Saturday, the park is open from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; March 9-31, the hours are 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The park has minnows and nightcrawlers for sale. For more information, call the Ranger Station at 804-693-2107.
