In March 2019, Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society received a $15,000 life-saving investment grant from the Petco Foundation. Earmarked for GMHS’s Highway to Home program, the grant helped offset the costs associated with veterinary care and transportation of homeless pets to adoption-guaranteed partners throughout the U.S. northeast.
Thanks to the generous support of the Petco Foundation, staff who prepare pets for transport and volunteers to transport them to adoption-guaranteed partners, 174 pets found their Highway to Home between March and July 2019. Partners include the SPCA of Hancock County, Adams County SPCA, Humane Society of Chittenden County, New Hampshire SPCA and Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. These shelters are in wonderful communities who, like those in GMHS’ service region, have a heart for homeless pets.
