Helping the Homeless is opening its long-awaited thrift store, located at 7028 George Washington Memorial Highway south of Gloucester Court House on July 1.
The thrift store will help fund the ministry’s “Camp Restoration” program. The goal of Camp Restoration is to provide homelessness shelter and food for a year to people while they clean up their credit, work on their resumes. and develop job skills.
“It would be faith-based,” said Pastor Wendy Roundy about the future program. The program helps people get unstuck and move forward in their lives.
The thrift store will be run mostly by volunteers. The only employees in the thrift store will be people that Helping the Homeless is trying to help move forward in life and out of poverty.
“We’re recruiting volunteers,” said Roundy. “We need volunteers.”
Roundy said that the ministry is looking for outgoing people that will be good at working with the public, strong people who can lift heavy items and folks who can make creative displays. T...
