Hearing Tuesday on event venue permit

The Mathews County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will hold a joint public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse to consider an application for a conditional use permit to operate an event venue at 1330 Ebenezer Church Road, Cobbs Creek.
According to the legal notice for the application, the venue would allow a maximum of 150 guests on two combined parcels that make up the 13-acre property, which is partially zoned residential waterfront and partially zoned rural.
Three residents who live near the property have raised objections to the proposed use of the property on the grounds that heavy use of the narrow, winding road leading to it would be dangerous for people who walk there and children who play there and that it would change the nature of the rural residential neighborhood.
