The Mathews County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will hold a joint public hearing at 7 o’clock tonight, Thursday, Nov. 9, on a request for a CUP to build a 12-unit apartment complex on two parcels on Main Street.
According to the application by Conrad Bareford of Rad LLC, the complex would consist of one-bedroom apartments located at 131 and 149 Main Street, the site of a former Texaco gas station, a small two-unit office building, and a former insurance office. The two parcels, one behind the other, are adjacent to Westville Baptist Church on one side, the Food Lion and Mathews Post Office on the other side, and Grover’s Auto Repair in back.
Bareford has proposed demolishing the gas station and the small building that previously housed the insurance office, converting the small office building to storage space for tenants, and building a two-story structure with six apartments downstairs and six upstairs.
