The Mathews County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on the county’s proposed $39.77 million budget last Thursday, but no one from the public commented on the matter and no vote was taken.
County Administrator Ramona Wilson outlined a 2024-2025 fiscal year budget that’s $7.66 million higher than last year, due primarily to grant-funded dredging projects at Hole in the Wall and Davis Creek and other proposed capital expenditures.
There are no proposed tax increases, leaving the real estate tax rate at $0.56 per $100 of assessed value, personal property at $3.70 per $100 of assessed value, boats at $1.45 per $100, and other classifications of personal property at $2.14 per $100.
The 2025 budget and tax rates are scheduled for adoption during the Thursday, May 16 meeting at 6 p.m. in the historic courthouse, while any amendments and the appropriation of the budget are scheduled for Tuesday, June 25.
