The man sitting on the bench reading a copy of the Gazette-Journal appears unfazed by the tree that came crashing around him on Wednesday morning. Strong winds blew into the area in the early morning hours, knocking down trees and causing thousands to lose power. According to Dominion’s Power Outage Map, Mathews County experienced a high density of outages near Moon, Foster and Cobbs Creek, while in Gloucester, Dutton, Ware Neck, Harcum and those along Pampa Road also saw a high number of outages. According to Dominion, crews were dispatched early Wednesday to restore power to those affected.
