A memorial service for Hayes R. Olivis Sr., 83, of Gloucester, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in Shepherdsville Baptist Church, Ark. He died Thursday, July 18, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Blanchard and Clara Olivis; his wife, Ruth; and daughter, Hazelle.

He was born in Baltimore, Md., on Oct. 4, 1929. After serving in the U.S. Army, he went to work at the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, and retired after over 30 years of civil service. He was a member of Shepherdsville Baptist Church where he served as a trustee for many years.

Survivors include his sons, Hayes Jr., Langston and Jamie; his daughters, Bobbie Johnson and Maria Olivis; eight grandchildren; a brother, Alonzo, and sisters, Clara Evans, Mary O. Hopson, Christine Taylor, and Carris Harris.
