Harry J. Jenkins Jr., 73, of Hayes, died Jan. 13, 2015 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Harry was a native of Gloucester and lived the true Guinea Heritage. He spent his life working on the water and dealing in the seafood industry. He was the 2001 Grand Marshal of the Guinea Jubilee and he was proud of this honor bestowed upon him. Harry was an avid harness horse racer and was the recipient of many awards. He loved cowboy movies and especially the movies featuring John Wayne. Above all, his family was his passion and he will be missed with a smile by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria D. Jenkins of 48 years; father, Harry J. Jenkins Sr.; sister, Sheila Griffeth, and brother, Randolph Jenkins.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Hazel Jenkins; daughter, Teresa Owens and husband Sean; son, Allen Jenkins; grandchildren, Jennifer Bush, Allen Jenkins, Brett Jenkins, Josh Jenkins, Jessica Jenkins and Dillon Jenkins; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Faye J. Deal; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rodney Autry and the Rev. Richard Whiteheart was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Union Baptist Church. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family greeted friends Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
