Harris honored as GREA ‘Retired Educator of the Year’

Wyllona E. Harris was named the 2024 Retired Educator of the Year on June 27 by the Gloucester Retired Educators Association (GREA). She was honored recently during a luncheon at the Gloucester Disabled American Veterans building.
Honorees are chosen each year based on their dedication to GREA, their drive to help young people and contributions to the community.
After graduating as valedictorian of her senior class at Lylburn Downing High School in Lexington, Harris earned a bachelor of science and a master of education in mathematics education from Virginia State University.
During her more than 25 years of teaching at the high school, junior high school and college levels, Harris worked for Hampton City Schools, Virginia State University, Hampton University, Norfolk State University, and Arlington County Public Schools.
