A single-vehicle accident on Route 33 in Middlesex County early Wednesday, May 3, took the life of a Hardyville resident.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police identified the victim as 51-year-old Howard Leander Hollingsworth.

She said Hollingsworth was traveling east on Route 33 in the area of 3092 General Puller Memorial Highway, when the vehicle he was driving ran off the right shoulder, struck a ditch, and overturned around 12:04 a.m. She said Hollingsworth was not restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester where he died of his injuries, Anaya said.
