A celebration of Walter Reed’s 171st birthday, sponsored by The Fairfield Foundation, was held on Saturday at Reed’s birthplace in the Belroi area of Gloucester. Born on Sept. 13, 1851, Reed was a doctor, an officer in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, and a professor of clinical and sanitary microscopy. He is known for discovering the cause of yellow fever.
