Gloucester High School graduate Hannah Joyce, the 2012 Peninsula District Softball Player of the Year, was named the VHSL Eastern Region Co-Player of the Year.
Joyce averaged .540 on 47 hits this season, scored 51 runs and drove in 30 runs. She also had seven triples, four home runs and stole 21 bases in 23 attempts. She also hit an incredible .722 in the post season. Joyce, who is headed to Chowan University on a softball scholarship, shares the co-player of the year honors with Alex Reetz of Great Bridge High School.
Joining Joyce as a First Team All Eastern Region selection was Gloucester pitcher Makayla Jenkins. The junior left hander was 12-2 on the season with 120 strikeouts in 92 innings pitched. She had an ERA of 0.91 and held her opponents to a .159 batting average. At the plate, Jenkins hit .512 with 12 doubles, nine home runs and 45 RBIs.
