Construction on Guinea Road has been underway since June and according to the Virginia Department of Transportation, is expected to be complete in early September. Drivers are currently experiencing a one-way alternating traffic through the roadwork. The reconstruction work will cover nearly four miles of Guinea Road. The work includes a full-depth reclamation, which requires crews to remove the existing asphalt and compacting the existing pavement. Drivers can expect rough roadways in the meantime because of this process. After the new layer of single seal surface treatment is installed and cured, crews will return after several weeks to apply the final layer of asphalt. Drivers will be able to drive on the single seal surface as it cures.
