Gregory Earl Mitchell, 52, of Gloucester, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.
He was born in Hopkinsville, Ky. He was a Project Inspector for York County Environmental and Developmental Services. He was a kind, generous person with an endless supply of love. He was a man who was always noticed when he walked into a room. He had an incredible way of making a friend family and left and indelible mark on everyone he met. He loved to laugh and always had a story ready to tell. The light in his eyes came from his family and how he loved them. He lived to be outside, loved to build furniture, work in his garage and working on his antique Ford tractor.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Robbie Lee O’Bryan. He is survived by his wife and his best friend, Shannon Mitchell; his children, Amanda Ridings and her husband Bryan of Gloucester, Gregg “Bubba” Mitchell and his wife Amber of Yorktown, and his youngest sons, Patrick and Joey Mitchell of Gloucester. His children were the lights of his life and he was immensely proud of each of them. He was their biggest fan. He is survived by his grandchildren, Aiden (Squeak), Hannah (Brat Face), Braiden (Monkey), Carson (Turd), and Teagyn (Little Girl). He shared a special relationship with each of them and they were the sparkle in his eyes. He is survived by his pop, Tom O’Bryan of Newport News; his siblings, Lisa Barnhouse and her husband Kevin of Dinwiddie, Scott Mitchell and his wife Anna of Smithfield, Thomas O’Bryan and his wife Morgan of Newport News, and his sister, Donna Torrey and her husband Mike of Gloucester. The love he shared for each of them was evident and he was so proud to be their big brother. His nieces and nephews, Christopher, Megan, Ashley, Grace, Jacob, Natalie, Thomas, and Madyson were so special to him and he was so proud of each of them.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mitchell Boys Scholarship fund for Patrick and Joey at any SunTrust Bank.
