Judy Ward and Clarence Minters, longtime dedicated members of the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, were chosen to be grand marshals of the Mathews County lighted Christmas parade held in 2009. Minters was also grand marshal in 1994. In his service to the squad which began in 1982, he received local, state and national awards. Ward joined the squad in 1987 and also received local, state and national recognition of her service.
