Gospel concert to benefit hurricane victims Sunday

A gospel concert to benefit Hurricane Helene victims in North Carolina will be held on Sunday at Newington Baptist Church from 3-5:30 p.m.
The concert is free to attend but a love offering will be collected during the concert for those who would like to donate. Proceeds will be sent to Spruce Pine First Baptist Church in North Carolina.
“This will go directly to the church to help the people right there,” said Michele Hudgins Thacker, one of the concert organizers.
Thacker, who is a Mathews resident, wanted to hold the concert in a location central to Mathews, Gloucester and Middlesex so more people could attend. She is grateful to Newington for providing that location, which is situated on the corner of Gloucester Main Street and Route 17.
“I asked and the church is stepping up,” said Thacker.
