After beginning her career at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society in September 2022 as a member of the adoption team, Voula Douglerakis has transitioned into the role of community coordinator to help provide humane education to the public.
Douglerakis is in charge of community outreach from running children’s activities to visiting nursing homes with shelter animals. She also helps coordinate volunteer opportunities.
“All of the help from our community makes a difference,” said Communications & Development Manager Caitlin Donnelly. “No matter what form.”
“We invite the community to come and get involved,” said Douglerakis.
Those who are 16 and older are able to start volunteering at the shelter. For children under 16 who would like to get involved, there are crafts they can create to help make the lives of shelter pets brighter. Popular craft options are making cat toys and dog treats.
“There’s always different ways of getting involved,” said Douglerakis.
