Success swept over the Gloucester High School girls’ tennis team Tuesday, sending off good vibes for the long season ahead. In their first Peninsula District match of the season, the Lady Dukes won, 6-3, at Bethel.
Christine Riddett at first seed posted a win for GHS with 6-0 wins in straight sets and her number two teammate Olivia Edwards won, 6-3, 6-0. Gloucester’s Kelsey Lineberry lost, 6-1, 6-0, but Forrest Eversole at number four got by her Bethel opponent, 6-3, 7-5. Katie Masiak played confidently for the Dukes at number five and won, 6-3, 6-1.
Jordan Simpson, number six for Gloucester, had the grueling match of the day. After losing her first set, 7-5, Simpson fought to a 6-6 tie in the second. A 10-point tiebreaker decided the match, with Simpson coming up short, 10-3.
In doubles, Riddett and Edwards swept their pro set, 8-0, Lineberry and Masiak lost, 8-3, and the third-seed doubles match was defaulted to Eversole and Rebecca Bish.
