Gloucester supervisors consider pair of rezoning requests

Gloucester supervisors, meeting on Tuesday in the colonial courthouse, held a pair of public hearings to consider two rezoning requests.
The board unanimously approved the first request, rezoning a 5.02-acre parcel adjacent to Machicomoco State Park in Hayes, from Rural Countryside (RC-1) to Suburban Countryside (SC-1). The second application, to reclassify 10.65 acres in the Gloucester Point district from B-2 (Village Mixed Use) to B-1 (General Business), was rejected on a 5-2 vote.
The first hearing, on the parcel near the state park, was sought so that the applicants, Eric and Christy Baldwin of Hayes, could subdivide the property for a family member through the Family Transfer Subdivision process.
The parcel is located on a private road, Braeburn Lane, which is adjacent to the park. The property was zoned RC-1, while everything surrounding it is SC-1 after multiple rezonings.
