For the first time in eight years, the Gloucester High School boys’ cross country team took first place in the 2021 Regional 5B Championships at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg this past weekend.
The girls’ team finished third in the regional meet, qualifying both teams for the Class 5 State meet next Saturday. This is only the second time in school history that the girls’ team has qualified for the state competition.
Tanner Baker came in first for Gloucester and second overall with a time of 17:45. Rylan Allcorn finished with a time of 19:11, followed by Josh Pinder (19:22), Tyler Hicks (19:27), Joel Junker (20:10), Leo Berry (20:13) and Owen Hogge (20:33). The Gloucester boys finished the meet with a team score of 48.
For the girls, Mya Baker came in sixth place overall with a time of 22:37. Samantha Jacobs ran a 25:07, followed by Abigail Junker (25:10), Kaylee Hall (25:25), Cori Morgan (25:49) and Mackenzie Alcorn (26:26). The girls finished the meet with a team score of 103...
