The Gloucester High School crew team won four races at the 25th annual Mathews Regatta on Saturday. The Dukes also posted four second-place finishes, two third places, four fourths and four fifth-place showings. The Gloucester rowers placed ninth among 18 competing teams for efficiency. Over 800 rowers participated in the regatta.
Starting off the day, the GHS eight of Madi Hutson, Bailey Hamilton, Kara Smith, Maddie Lee, Tialynn Ilog, Madison Hogge, Mackenzie Marbain, Kaitlyn Thompson and coxswain Chase Holland won their race in 4:37.7.
The Gloucester second four of Hannah Cagle, Mikaela Extine, Kassidy Brown, Emily Freudenberg and coxswain Andrew Wiehrs won their race in 4:06 and the junior four of Hutson, Ilog, Smith and Hamilton with Holland at coxswain had a race winning time of 3:49. Jacob Cheatham and Chris Smith remained undefeated in the men’s double with a time of 3:24.4.
