Gloucester County got a chance to relive the events that led up to the American Revolution, as the Gloucester Museum of History, Gloucester Museum Foundation, Gloucester Historical Society and the Gloucester 250 Committee held an event Sunday afternoon to mark the 250th anniversary of the Gloucester County Resolves. Above, Bill Rose of Shades of Our Past portrayed Archibald Cary, who had represented Chesterfield County in the Virginia House of Burgesses until that legislative body was dissolved by Lord Dunmore after its support of Boston colonists after the closing of Boston Harbor, addressed the audience as members of Gloucester’s committee of safety. The committee, on July 14, 1774 approved the Gloucester County Resolves in opposition to the British crown.
