Gloucester resident dies in single-vehicle accident

At approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, the Virginia State Police was called to investigate a single-vehicle accident on Route 641 (Tidemill Road), Gloucester Point, that resulted in a fatality.
According to VSP, preliminary investigations reveal that the driver of a 2016 Chevrolet Trak was traveling west on Route 641, east of Route 17, when he ran off the road and struck a utility pole. The driver, Daniel McAllister Dix, 46 of the 1700 block of Chiskiake Street, Gloucester Point, was not wearing his safety belt and died upon impact. Speed was a contributing factor and it is unknown at this time if alcohol was also a factor.
The utility pole that was struck was owned by Dominion Power, who came to the scene to restore power back to its customers. VDOT assisted in lane closures and rerouting traffic.
Notification was made to Dix's family members this morning.
