Fran Bonniville, a registered nurse at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, was an honorable mention recipient of the Virginia Nurses Foundation’s inaugural "40 Under 40" awards, which recognize the top 40 nurses in Virginia under the age of 40.

Unbeknownst to Bonniville, the nurse’s father, Wes Winfree of Gloucester, nominated her for the award, and Jill Byrd, nurse manager of the Medical/Surgical unit at Walter Reed, wrote a recommendation.

Bonniville and the other winners were honored at the fourth annual Virginia Nurses Foundation Gala on Sept. 24 at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond.

William Machen, an emergency department nurse at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital, Tappahannock, was among five Riverside Health System award winners. Riverside nurses also received five honorable mentions, said Peter Glagola, Riverside’s director of public relations.
