Gloucester Institute receives Spirit of Virginia Award

The Gloucester Institute, located at Holly Knoll in Cappahosic, was presented the first Spirit of Virginia Award of 2025 by First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin and Governor of Virginia Glenn Youngkin.
They traveled to Holly Knoll last Thursday to present this honor, with the couple presenting a ceremonial crystal bowl to Kay Coles James, chair of the Gloucester Institute’s Board of Directors, and her husband, Charles James Jr.
The mission of The Gloucester Institute is to train and nurture students that are emerging leaders across the country, continuing the work and memory of Dr. Robert Russa Morton, the second president of the Tuskegee Institute, through programs, activities and maintenance of his historic home, Holly Knoll.
At last Thursday’s presentation, students who are a part of the Emerging Leaders Program at the Gloucester Institute spoke about their experiences at the institute and the impact that it had on them.
