Gloucester home damaged in early-morning fire

Gloucester firefighters battled an early-morning fire Monday at a home in a subdivision off Indian Road.
A fire early Monday morning in a home in a subdivision off Indian Road caused extensive damage to the structure, according to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue chief J.D. Clements. Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the fire.
The GVFRS responded with three engines, a tanker, medic unit and 19 crew members. Mathews Volunteer Fire Department responded as well, providing a tanker and an engine. Abingdon sent a tanker, but the response was canceled by Gloucester.
The fire rendered the Bumpy Road home unlivable, Clements said, adding that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
