Dr. Dwayne North spent the first 18 years of his life with his father and mother in their native Guyana, a country in the northeastern coast of South America. Now, all three of them are team members at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester.
The 37-year-old general surgeon has been at the hospital since 2020. His mother, Tessa North, began her job as a medical technologist in RWRH’s laboratory in January. His father, security officer Godfrey North, joined the RWRH team in February.
“It’s a blessing that I don’t ever take for granted,” said Dr. North. “It has been different because we’ve never worked in the same place before and they’d been pretty far away during my training. But they’re cool people, and it’s fun to have them around.”
“I guess I will call it a dream,” said Tessa North. “My husband and I have such different professions, so to be at the hospital with him is one thing. But then also to have my son here—it’s incredible.”
