The Gloucester Daffodil Club has been busy preparing for the upcoming daffodil season, fulfilling its mission to “Turn Gloucester Yellow.”
The club’s 2023 plantings included more than 10,000 Daffodil Bulbs planted by hand in Gloucester at the T.C. Walker House, Veterans of Foreign Wars building, Petsworth Elementary School, the Welcome sign on Route 17 in northern Gloucester, and the laundromat on Main Street, said a press release.
The largest planting during the season included more than 2,800 bulbs planted at the entrances to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.
Bulbs were purchased with money raised at the club’s 2023 Daffodil Gala and Auction, and 2,355 bulbs were donated by Allen Haas, a Gloucester Daffodil Club supporter from North Carolina, said the release.
Leading the Gloucester Daffodil Club Planters was Jim Camp, with lots of help from his wife, Susan Camp.
Since the club formed in late 2018, members have planted 119,695 bulbs at 61 locations.
