Gloucester cook draws on a family tradition of excellence

She grew up in a family whose outstanding cooking abilities were very well known, appreciated and sought after. Loving to cook, Beth Bunting carries on her family’s tradition, using some of her own recipes and always considering some of the older ones.
“I learned from my two grandmothers and my parents were excellent cooks,” Beth explains. “Our home was an extension of my grandmother’s Sutton’s Restaurant. We lived next door. She was known as Mamie Sutton but Mary Elizabeth was her name. I can’t remember anyone ever calling her her real name, it was always Mamie.
“I also spent a lot of time with my grandmother Jessie Young who lived in Ware Neck. She had an apple tree in the backyard so when making apple pies I did the apple peeling. Such good memories.”
