Gloucester BOS looks at reassessment process

Gloucester supervisors received an update on the county’s reassessment process during Tuesday’s meeting in the colonial courthouse, including discussion of moving from the present two-year cycle to conducting the reassessment every three years.
The discussion of the modification to the three-year cycle was led by county assessor Dan Thomas. He gave a presentation which included real estate taxes in years past with an explanation of why the county should consider the change.
Thomas presented a chart with the property tax as a percent of median household income in Gloucester and surrounding jurisdictions from 2022. The chart showed that Gloucester County taxpayers pay about 2.2 percent in property taxes relative to median household income, which is the second lowest percent in comparison to neighboring jurisdictions.
He also showed Gloucester County property taxes over the years.
