Gloucester board begins capital improvement plan discussions

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors began capital improvement plan discussions for fiscal years 2026-2030 during its work session held Tuesday evening in the colonial courthouse.
The county has received 33 requests, totaling approximately $146 million. This is a net total of about $131 million after other funding sources are applied.
“That is quite a bit higher than last year’s five-year total,” said county administrator Carol Steele.
One of the biggest problems the county is currently facing is the costs it incurs when not funding CIP projects in a timely manner because when “delaying to fix something, more damage can be done,” said Steele.
An example Steele provided of this was the removal of the Gloucester Point Beach playground in 2021 because it had not yet received the funds needed to keep up with the structural maintenance.
“We have never replaced it,” said Steele.
