Gloucester blood drive nets 60 units

An American Red Cross blood drive, held on Tuesday, June 27 at the Gloucester Moose Lodge, resulted in the collection of 60 productive units, one more than the drive’s goal of 59, according to volunteer Mary Beth Mayer.
A total of 66 potential donors came in, with four deferred for various medical reasons and two others who started but were unable to give a complete donation. The community blood drive also included 20 other people who had made appointments, but didn’t show up.
Mayer urged those who make appointments and later find they will be unable to attend to let the Red Cross know, so that spot can be freed up for other donors.
At the June 27 drive, the Red Cross volunteers were assisted by members of the Botetourt Masonic Lodge, who aided both with the setup and breakdown of the event, Mayer said.
