Gloucester Auto Sales opened for business in mid-July on Route 17, White Marsh, just south of Goodfellas Restaurant.
Owner Steve Norwood buys, sells and trades pre-owned cars, trucks and sport utility vehicles. Norwood said he acquires many vehicles at auctions, but also picks up vehicles to sell from trade-ins and through individual sales.
The internet has changed the automotive sales business, Norwood said, so that people living hours away from Gloucester might still consider coming to his lot if they spot a deal. But most of the early business has been customers from the Middle Peninsula and Peninsula, he said.
Norwood said that his smaller operation allows more direct contact with customers throughout the transaction. He is assisted by sales manager Steve Sawyer.
Norwood has 30 years’ experience in auto sales, while Sawyer has 16. Both men, who reside in Gloucester, previously worked at other auto sales operations in the region.
